Last Friday morning I got up early and headed for Herbert Park in Ballsbridge with my camera. It looked like the day was going to be a good one, a few clouds for sure, but sunshine certainly, and I wanted the chance of capturing some of the morning activity as the sun came up.
In case you’re not familiar with Herbert Park it consists of:
- 32 acres of Parkland
- Very pleasant walks
- Soccer pitches
- Children’s playground
- A bowling green
- Duck pond with carp
- Outdoor tennis courts
It didn’t work out as planned. I got there at 7am. But since it was September, the park wasn’t due to open until 8am! After a moment of disappointment I turned my camera to Ballsbridge. I didn’t wander too far; I only took photographs of what appealed in that part of Ballsbridge near the park. I’m glad I did. The wild flowers growing around the banks of the Dodder, the familiar signage on the pubs and the bridge itself, were all well worth capturing.
As I was concentrating on Ballsbridge I forgot my plan for Herbert Park. But I got in eventually, a little after 8am, and found that it was already a hive of activity. Early morning joggers, park keepers gathering leaf fall and some of the best fed ducks in Dublin kept me company.
By 8.30am it was time to stop and think about the day job. So I headed off to the office armed with a coffee and fruit Danish from Roly’s. Not quite in the same league as peanut butter on a bagel but very nice all the same.
Since I took the photos I’ve been trying to decide which one’s my favourite. There are a few that fight for the prize, but my opinion has changed a few times since Friday. At the moment I’m leaning towards the picture of the chimney pots on terraced cottages as seen from Herbert Park. Please let me know which one you like best and if you have the time, let me know why.
